Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) check and care for patients with nerve, bone, and joint disorders and related problems such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, arthritis pain, leg/arm problems, and numbness and tingling. When addressing your needs, DCs use appropriate tests (such as x-rays), conservative therapies, with a primary focus on spinal manipulation.

GOALS OF TREATMENT:
  • Reduce Pain
  • Restore Function Through:
  • Increase Range of Motion
  • Maintain Structural Integrity
  • Increase Strength/Conditioning
  • Increase Joint Coordination
  • Preventing Future Problems

  • METHODS OF TREATMENT

    Spinal Manipulation (Adjustment)

Chiropractic manipulation is the foundation of chiropractic treatment. It is a controlled precise thrust into a specific joint to reduce pain, restore normal joint function, reducing nerve interference. Chiropractors are highly trained to detect and adjust effectively and safely.

    Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a term that describes therapies such ice/heat, muscle stimulation, traction, ultrasound, massage, and exercise used to compliment an adjustment in achieving treatment goals. Specific therapies are applied to patients based on needs and goals.

Ice : decreases swelling and pain.
Hot Moist Heat: Relaxes tight muscles, reduces pain and increases healing.
Electrical Muscle Stimulation: Decreases pain and muscle spasms, relaxes tight muscles.
Ultrasound: Relaxes muscles, increases healing, massages the muscles, removes toxins, reduces swelling.
Massage: Relaxes muscles, decreases pain, increases healing.

    Manual Soft Tissue Techniques

Manual soft tissue technique is a method performed by the doctor using his hands to reduce pain and muscle spasms, break up scar tissues that developed from inflammation, and to restore pain-free full range of motion. This method is also very effective for getting rid of painful knots called trigger points that developed from prolonged muscle spasms.

This technique also speeds up healing so the body does not develop problems in the future. When this technique is done, the injured tissues are strengthened, by allowing the new tissues to develop properly.

    Therapeutic Exercises

Exercise is given to help the healing process to occur properly and to strengthen the weakened area. When you experience an injury, pain occurs when tissues are stretched beyond their normal limits and tear. But pain is not a good indicator of how bad the problem is. (a paper cut vs. heart disease). The goal of exercise is to strengthen the area to prevent the problem from reoccurring.

    Neuromuscular Re-Education

This is a technique used to train the body to relearn the basic function prior to the injury. When an injury occurs to the surrounding tissues of a joint, the brain gets confused of how the joint should work properly. The brain is bombarded with abnormal information from the joint and it does not understand normal any longer. The goal is to retrain the brain by feeding it proper information from the joint through a variety of techniques. If this is not done properly, the brain now learns that the joint is supposed to function incorrectly. For example, it is like a puppet on a string, your hand is the brain and the puppet is the joint. If the puppet gets hit by a flying orange from the audience, the puppet gets twisted and the strings get tangled. If this is not corrected, your thumb that was supposed to move the left leg now moves the right arm. The puppet is useless unless the strings are properly corrected.
